With the cold weather making its presence known, I don’t think there is anything more comforting than hot chocolate. Green & Black’s Organic Cocoa, not only tastes fantastic but also holds the FAIRTRADE Mark, so why not treat yourself?

Fairtrade Chocolate Recipes

I’ve just been looking at the Divine website and found some lovely recipes for Heavenly White Chocolate Brownies and Orange Chocolate Chip Muffins. Its probably an understatement to say I’m not very good in the kitchen, but I’ll still be having a go at making these as they both sound yummy! Other recipes are also online for deserts and cocktails – well worth a look.

Pa Pa Paa

I admit it, I love chocolate and I love the range of Divine Chocolate.
The producers behind Divine Chocolate are a Ghanaian co-operative called Kuapa Kokoo, which translated into their local language of Twi means “Good Cocoa Farmers Company”.
Divine was launched in the UK in 1999 with the help of Twin Trading and The Body Shop, and support from Christian Aid and Comic Relief. In July 2006 The Body Shop donated their shares to Kuapa Kokoo meaning they hold a larger share in the company. Not only do the farmers receive their fair trade price for their cocoa beans but they also have a say over how the company is run and receive a share of the profits.
Cocoa farming is a labour intensive process starting with the cocoa pods being collected and the seeds (which become the beans) being removed and left to dry out in the tropical sun, allowing the beans’ flavour and colour to develop. The beans are picked by hand and when the harvest takes place the whole of the family is involved. There have been many reports of child labour being used and indeed, there is a fine balance between child labour and a child helping with family chores. By purchasing fair trade you can ensure this balance is kept and know that the farmers have received a fair price for their produce.
Kuapa Kokoo’s motto is “Pa Pa Paa” meaning “the best of the best” and when you try their chocolate I’m sure you’ll agree! I find it has a smoother and creamier taste without being overly sweet. So far we’ve found the milk and orange chocolate to be very popular.
